Design for sound...
Monitor Audio Ltd is a British owned and managed global specialist in hi-fi loudspeaker design, incorporating stereo and surround sound systems, and a range of sonically matched architectural speakers for ultra discreet high quality sound around the home and even outside!
Whatever your taste and budget, you’ll discover a Monitor Audio speaker that, with a combination of superior design and build, answers your desire for great sound. Since hi-fi was in its infancy, they’ve dedicated all their technical expertise, innovation and craftsmanship to the creation of world-class loudspeakers, which says everything about the brand and the people who own it. They want you to share and enjoy the blend of style, quality, performance and sophistication that makes Monitor Audio unique.
Their success is not simply a matter of excellent sound quality, although expert listeners around the world will testify to that. It’s more about how they deliver the sonic superlatives. By consistently refining and applying their technologies, Monitor Audio has become the world’s foremost expert in developing metal dome drivers. Metal is not the easiest material to work, which is why many of their competitors choose paper or plastic. But it does have amazing properties for more life-like sound reproduction when treated correctly.
Convinced that metal would revolutionise driver performance, Monitor Audio experimented with tweeter domes throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, releasing six models in the mid 1980s to a mixture of acclaim and controversy. Further research and exhaustive testing eventually paid off when in 1988 they launched the first speaker to incorporate a landmark design: the gold alloy dome tweeter. It represented a technological leap from single-metal domes which, almost without exception, sounded unconvincing. The R352MD loudspeaker used an aluminium-magnesium alloy dome that sounded significantly clearer and smoother, and also incorporated innovations for automatic voice-coil damping/cooling, bringing greater fidelity at higher volumes. These radical design elements formed the basis for successive generations of Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium (C-CAM®) metal domes.
The C-CAM® drivers used throughout their comprehensive range are very light, but very rigid and strong. This magical mix of properties leaves them light enough to respond to the finest musical nuance, and tough enough to stay in shape while resisting the extreme bending forces of deep bass frequency reproduction. They can also be designed much smaller than conventional drivers and still reproduce sounds way beyond the limits of human audibility without distortion. This means that Monitor Audio can build slimmer, more elegant cabinets around them, so you can enjoy class-leading audio performance from designs that better suit your décor and lifestyle. And since they share a philosophy and a consistency of excellence, all of their hi-fi loudspeakers, whether on-wall, in-wall, floor or stand-mounting, may be mixed to create the perfect fusion of colour and shape for any room. In the strength and depth of their evolving product portfolio, the ideal of a universal whole-house loudspeaker brand finds true expression.
